C.H.M FARMS LTD is a farming and juice production company based in Ghana,West Africa, at Dobro Nsawam and Fotobi which seeks to process and export fruits from our own and other farms.
The Safo family were the original pioneers of large-scale commercial farming in Ghana through the vehicle of Combined Farmers.
Over the years they have maintained an interest in exotic fruits. Members of the family have successfully established their own individual farms and have unrivaled experience of the fresh fruit industry.
Pineapple production and cultivation of other exotic fruits has created employment for thousands of people in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
C.H.M. Farms LTD aims to maintain a 1,200 acre coconut plantation with the view to exporting fresh coconut and coconut products, and to produce 600 hectares of pineapple for export and processing. It also intends to re-establish the company as a leading pineapple grower in Ghana.
Combined Farmers / CHM Farms currently has a total combined area of about 2,000 hectares; of which 200 hectares is cultivated to pineapple and can easily be expanded to meet the requirements of continuous raw material supply; 8 hectares of citrus; while 400 hectares is planted to coconut with current coconut plantation of 70,000 trees. The coconut has a maturity period of 4 to 5 years and is already fruiting and ready for processing.
Together with its network of out growers, CHM Farms is capable of supplying the required raw material for year round processing with regards to pineapple and coconut.
Fruit Processing
The fruit juice processing project will process fresh fruits into ready-to drink juice for the local and export market; targeting mainly the restaurants, food establishments, and convenience shops.
The proposed processing plant is expected to begin operations in 2010, and would source 100% of its fruit requirements from its mother company, Combined Farmers and C.H.M Farms Ltd.
The Company’s marketing strategy is to sell pure fresh pineapple juice packaged in 500ml bottles under refrigeration to consumers under the brand name St. Michael’s Juice.
The plant will be located at Dobro, near Nsawam on the main Accra-Kumasi Highway. It will be sited 3 to 5 meters off the main road to allow easy accessibility for transportation of raw materials and finished products. This location is central to the pineapple producing areas of Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
C.H.M. Farms LTD goal is to set up a 211,000 litre output per month of ready to drink fruit juice through its processing plant at Dobro Nsawam.
The company aims to acquire and install a 1 ton output per hour fruit juice processing plant to add value to its fresh pineapple and coconut fruits; by processing highly perishable fresh fruits into a more stable (longer shelve life) fruit juice.
The goal is to begin processing 1,690 metric tons of fresh pineapple fruits to obtain 1,351,680 litres of juice in year 1, and to increase that output to 1,978,995 litres by the end of year 5.
